Project: The exploration of elemental technetium and the search for binary Tc compounds.
Research: Emily’s research focuses on the exploration of technetium (a high yield fission product with a long half-life) at high pressures and temperatures. This includes characterization of Tc metal at high temperatures and pressures, synthesis and stability determination of new phases, and synthesis and characterization of novel technetium compounds. Her work relies heavily on laser and resistive heating in a diamond anvil cell (DAC), in situ XRD and Raman spectroscopy.
